Salary details for 12 Alabama coaches who got new deals
A fresh batch of Alabama coaching contracts were approved Tuesday and one stood out.
The five-year deal for new baseball coach Rob Vaughn calls for an annual salary of $900,000. That’s a significant bump from the deal his now-fired predecessor Brad Bohannon signed in 2021. It paid him $475,000 in 2022 with $25,000 annual increases.
Adding $400,000 to the head coach’s pay is significant but still leaves Vaughn as the 10th-highest paid SEC baseball coach according to a salary survey published last month by The Tennessean. Bohannon was the lowest-paid coach in the league before he was fired May 4 amid an investigation into gambling allegations.
Vaughn was one of 12 coaches who had deals approved in a brief meeting of the UA System Board of Trustees compensation committee. Jason Jackson, the interim head baseball coach who finished the 2023 season after Bohannon’s firing, got a raise to $300,000 as the associate head coach under Vaughn. Jackson made a total of $238,625 in compensation in the 2022 calendar year, according to a UA database.
A few other highlights of the committee’s actions
- Men’s basketball assistants Austin Claunch and Ryan Pannone got two-year deals through 2025. Claunch has a salary of $275,000 a year while Pannone will make $330,000. The Tide still has one assistant coaching spot to fill. For reference, the salary for former Alabama assistants who moved onto head coaching jobs elsewhere: Antoine Pettway made $425,000 last year while Bryan Hodgson made $425,000.
- Softball coach Patrick Murphy got a five-year extension through 2028 at $530,000 a year. His last update came in 2021 worth between $475,000 and $515,000 a year through 2026.
- Women’s basketball coach Kristy Curry got a four-year extension through 2027 at $550,000 a year. That’s a raise of $50,000 from the last deal approved in 2021.

Head athletics trainer Jeff Allen also had his contract extended two years through 2025 with no change in compensation from the $400,000 annual salary.
Also of note, almost all of the contracts include stipends for a vehicle or a loaned vehicle. The stipends are between $600 and $700 a month.
