Salad kit recall: Salads sold in Alabama recalled for possible listeria contamination
Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc. is voluntarily recalling a number of salad kits due to possible listeria contamination.
The kits were processed on the same line as cheeses produced by Rizo-López Foods, which recently recalled a line of its dairy products. An announcement from the FDA posted on Feb. 5, says Rizo-López Foods is voluntarily recalling the dairy products because they are potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, people with illnesses and frail or elderly people.
Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The recalled dairy products include cheese, yogurt, and sour cream sold under the brand names Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and 365 Whole Foods Market.
The salad kits were sold in 25 states, including Alabama.
Dole Fresh Vegetables, Inc. has recalled the following salad kits under the Dole, President’s Choice, and Marketside brands due to possible cross-contamination with the dairy products.
Dole: Chopped Kit Avocado Ranch, Premium Kit Southwest Salad, Cajun Ranch Chopped Kit, Premium Kit Endless Summer, Supreme Kit Southwest Salad
President’s Choice: Southwest Salad Kit
Marketside: Chopped Salad Kit Bacon Ranch Crunch
Dole retailers have been advised to check store shelves and warehouse inventories to confirm that no recalled product is available for purchase by consumers.
