Saban, Freeze, SEC coaches reveal favorite musical artist, and, yes, Taylor Swift made cut

If you missed it – and chances are you didn’t – Nick Saban revealed a SEC media days he plays a little Rolling Stones on the ride home from Alabama games.

Of course, the exchange to the question was more of a story than the answer, but the point is we got another brief look at the man behind program.

Along the same lines, Action Network’s Brett McMurphy did his homework and found out each college football head coach’s favorite musical artist. It appears Taylor Swift made the list.

  • Alabama’s Nick Saban: The Rolling Stones
  • Arkansas’ Sam Pittman: Aerosmith
  • Auburn’s Hugh Freeze: Eric Church
  • LSU’s Brian Kelly: Bruce Springsteen
  • Mississippi State’s Zach Arnett: Led Zeppelin
  • Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin: Taylor Swift
  • Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher: The Rolling Stones
  • Florida’s Billy Napier: Coldplay
  • Georgia’s Kirby Smart: Luke Bryan
  • Kentucky’s Mark Stoops: Toby Keith
  • Missouri’s Eliah Drinkwitz: Eric Church
  • South Carolina’s Shane Beamer: Darius Rucker
  • Tennessee’s Josh Heupel: Mumford & Sons
  • Vanderbilt’s Clark Lea: Caamp

Here are some other notable coaches in the state:

  • South Alabama’s Kane Wommack: Coldplay
  • Troy’s Jon Sumrall: Chris Stapleton

Per Action Network, George Strait was the most popular choice, selected by eight coaches. Eric Church and Luke Combs tied as the second-most popular choice, each receiving six votes.

In July, in one of the more viral moments at SEC media days, Saban was asked if he had a pregame playlist he listened to. After some initial confusion, he revealed he doesn’t listen to music before a game.

“We always play ‘Gimme Shelter’ (by the Rolling Stones) going home after the game, but I don’t listen to music before the game,” he said. “I’m kind of thinking about, ‘Have we covered everything we need to cover? Are the players ready to go? Trying to anticipate what might be a problem in the game at some point.’”
