Ryan Williams debuts in grand style: ‘Change the name from Tuscaloosa to Hollywood, Alabama’

Ryan Williams might have just exceeded expectations in the first half of his debut as a receiver for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

That’s saying something.

Simply known as “Hollywood,” Williams, 17, showed he is ready for the big stage that is Bryant-Denny Stadium. The former Saraland High School star, who should be a senior in high school, caught two passes for a head-spinning 139 yards.

Saraland coach Jeff Kelly could only beam with pride when reached by AL.com at halftime Saturday night.

“I’m so proud watching Ryan,” he said. “I know it’s been a dream of his a long time to play on this stage. He has earned that opportunity and is making a splash in his first game.

“Change the name from Tuscaloosa to Hollywood, Alabama!”

Quarterback Jalen Milroe found Williams behind the defense with 2:27 left in the first quarter, and the freshman raced 84 yards for his first score to give Alabama a 21-0 lead.

Milroe, who threw for three first-half scores, found the freshman with 1:30 left in the half on a 55-yard catch and run. This time the former Mr. Football in the state of Alabama broke a tackle en route to the end zone.
