Rookie kicker Will Reichard: ‘A cold-blooded sniper’
The Minnesota Vikings chose two players from Alabama during the NFL Draft last month. They took linebacker Dallas Turner in the first round and kicker Will Reichard in the sixth round.
While making the media rounds as a first-rounder, Turner was asked to give a scouting report on Reichard during an appearance on “The Paul Allen Show” on KFAN-FM in Minneapolis.
“They got a cold-blooded sniper,” Turner said. “That’s that man, Will Reichard. Will’s been my kicker ever since I been in college, so that’s all I know. Will is definitely cold-blooded, for sure. He shows up every single time you need him.”
Reichard said on Monday that Turner had the right idea about his outlook on kicking.
“The mentality that I have personally is an assassin’s mentality,” Reichard said, “so that kind of, I guess, goes hand-in-hand. I try to be just super locked-in. You only get one shot, so one-shot, one-kill kind of mentality.”
In five seasons at Alabama, Reichard made 84-of-100 field-goal attempts and 295-of-297 extra-point tries as he scored an NCAA record 547 points.
“I think it just goes back to the work that you put in,” Reichard said. “You just try to rely on your preparation. Being a kicker, you’ve hit a thousand kicks over and over throughout the years, and you’ve hit that kick from that same exact spot probably hundreds of times, so just trying to rely on your technique, rely on your muscle memory and just go out there and do what you know how to do.”

Turner and Reichard are scheduled to start work with the Vikings at Minnesota’s rookie minicamp on Friday through Sunday.
“I actually saw Dallas at the facility yesterday,” Reichard said. “First time I’d seen him since we got drafted. We kind of connected eyes and embraced a big hug and we were both super excited. He told me some things about when he got to go up to Minneapolis and visit, so super excited to be on the same team as him for sure.”
Reichard had a scouting report on Turner, too.
“I feel like he’s just like a savage,” Reichard said. “He’ll just look in your eyes and you can tell he’s ready to go. And he’s going to whup you. He’s going to get the best of you. You can just look in his eyes and you can just tell.”
