Roll Toss! Alabama coaches, players make appearance at Mullet Toss
It wasn’t exactly 4th and 31, but Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe this weekend made a throw of a different kind – at the Flora-Bama’s Interstate Mullet Toss.
Milroe appeared Saturday along with new Alabama football coach Kalen DeBoer, basketball coach Nate Oats, and football teammate Malachi Moore.
Since the eighties, the famed Flora-Bama Lounge, Package and Oyster Bar has attracted tens of thousands of people to its beachside roadhouse for an annual event in which participates grab a dead mullet fish and toss it as far as they can.
Dubbed the “Gulf Coast’s Greatest Beach Party,” the toss happens on the coastline that straddles the Florida-Alabama state line. Contestants pay a $20 entry fee to toss the fish from a 10-foot circle in Florida, across the state line into Alabama.
It attracts upwards of 25,000 people and raises more than $100,000 for local charities.
Animal rights group PETA this week had a suggestion for how future mullet tosses might go.
