Rocket City Awards honor North Alabama athletes, coaches

Top athletes and stellar performances were recognized Monday night at the second annual Woody Anderson Ford Rocket City Awards in downtown Huntsville at the Mars Music Hall. The event, hosted by Huntsville radio station 97.7 ESPN The Zone, was highlighted by the announcement of College Athlete of the Year Mark Sears of the University of Alabama from Muscle Shoals and Professional Athlete of the Year Craig Kimbrel of the Baltimore Orioles and Lee-Huntsville.

The Hartselle High School baseball team was honored as the Inspirational Team of the Year as the Tigers finished as the Class 6A runner-up in a season that was marked by the loss of legendary coach William Booth just a day before the championship series started.
