Rock City Church Pastor Mike Jr. releases new album, ‘Impossible’
Birmingham’s Rock City Church Senior Pastor Mike McClure Jr., also known by his stage name Pastor Mike Jr., released his new gospel music album “Impossible” this week.
“I just really wanted to put my heart and soul into it,” said McClure during a release party at Rock City’s 13th anniversary celebration at Legacy Arena on Feb. 5. Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin was among the guests.
“The album is dope,” Woodfin said. “The album is fresh.”
McClure, named “artist of the year” at the Stellar Awards the past two years, urged fans to buy the album for $11.99 on iTunes. The album features 15 sings, including “Counting My Blessings” and “So Good,” along with the title song.
“When the album dropped, it was the number two most downloaded album in the whole world,” McClure said. “The only person in front of us was Shania Twain.”
McClure also announced that Rock City Church would help launch a new congregation called One City Church in Nashville in 2024. It will be led by lead pastors Hollis and Elise Thomas. Thomas was the first member to join Rock City Church in 2012, McClure said. Rock City will pay his salary for the first year as he launches the church, McClure said.
“Nashville will never be the same,” he said. No meeting place was announced.
“I hope we can do half in Nashville of what Rock City has done in Birmingham,” Thomas said.
