Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: Worm ate part of brain, then died in head, caused memory loss, fogginess
What many doctors thought was a brain tumor Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was suffering from back in 2010, a doctor at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital believed was a dead parasite in his head.
Kennedy revealed in a 2012 deposition, recently reviewed by The New York Times, that doctors noticed a dark spot on his brain scans.
A second opinion, however, cited, per the report, the spot on the scans “was caused by a worm that got into my brain and ate a portion of it and then died,” Kennedy said in the deposition.
The 70-year-old independent presidential candidate has faced health issues, but perhaps none as strange as the apparent parasite.
Kennedy has suffered from atrial fibrillation, per the report, as well as mercury poisoning.
In the interview with the Times, he said he recovered from the memory loss and had no aftereffects from the parasite, which he added did not required treatment.
Kennedy didn’t know what type of parasite he had or where he might have contracted it.
The Times talked with a number of infectious disease experts and neurosurgeons who speculated that Kennedy likely had a pork tapeworm larva.
Kennedy’s camp was short when asked if there was a belief that his health issues “could compromise his fitness for the presidency.”
“That is a hilarious suggestion, given the competition,” Stefanie Spear, a spokesperson for the Kennedy campaign, told the Times.
