RGIII questions Jalen Milroe’s confidence after being benched, ‘makes me wonder what’s next for him’

Robert Griffin III said it feels like Alabama coaches have given up on Jalen Milroe.

On Friday, it was reported that Nick Saban will start Notre Dame transfer quarterback Tyler Buchner on Saturday at South Florida.

RGIII, now an ESPN analyst, questioned Friday how the move will impact Milroe’s confidence after he started the first two games of the season.

“A talented guy like Milroe, who did respond extremely well inside that Texas game, it just makes me wonder what’s next for him,” Griffin told “The Paul Finebaum Show.”

“I know the coaches will say they believe in him and haven’t given upon him, but it doesn’t feel that way. I feel for him.”

Milroe has completed 27 of 45 passes through two games with seven touchdowns but had two turnovers in a 34-24 loss to Texas last week.

“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Alabama have a quarterback that has the quick-twitch ability that Jalen Milroe has,” Griffin said. “He just brings an added element to the game.”

But the former Baylor quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner wonders what the move will do for Milroe’s confidence. He said this isn’t like Jalen Hurts being benched for Tua Tagovailoa in the past.

“Jalen (Hurts) had played a ton of football,” he said. “He had won a lot of games. His confidence was not gonna go anywhere.

“Whereas with Jalen Milroe, you can count on your hand how many games he started in college football. I’m really concerned where he goes next.”
