Rewinding Monday’s Day 1 of the AHSAA state basketball tournament
The AHSAA state finals open today with Class 1A and 2A girls and boys teams taking the floor at Legacy Arena.
Reigning Miss Basketball and Alabama signee Ace Austin and two-time defending champion Spring Garden take on R.C. Hatch in the 1A semifinals. Tipoff is set for noon.

9:23 p.m., Title game matchup: No. 1 Providence Christian vs. No. 3 Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday.
9:20 p.m., Danilo’s big finish: TA’s Danilo Stojakovic scored 13 of his game-high 27 points in the fourth quarter, including 10 in a row at one point. He also had 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Jackson Cooper led Section with 20.
9:18 p.m., Exclamation point: Section turned the game around in the third quarter, but Tuscaloosa Academy restored order in the fourth in a major way. The Knights outscored the Lions 21-3 in the final eight minutes.
9:10 p.m., Taking control: Danilo Stojakovic with three straight baskets for TA. Knights lead up to 65-56 with 2:35 left. Stojakovic with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Section continues to have good looks at open 3s, but only one has fallen this quarter. TA has opened the period with a 14-3 run when it looked like Section had all the momentum.
9:06 p.m., Back on top: Knights open the fourth with an 8-0 and have regained the lead, 59-53, with 4:50 left. Stojakovic with 17 points, 9 rebounds. Jackson Cooper has 20 for Section.
9 p.m., Quick TO: Danilo Stojakovic ties it with a basket to open the fourth. It’s 53-53 with 7:20 left.
8:58 p.m., End 3: What a quarter for Section. Lions hit six 3s and outscore Tuscaloosa Academy 28-16. They now lead 53-51. Kyler Stewart, injured in the second quarter for Section, has returned to the bench to support his teammates.
8:50 p.m., Timeout on the floor: Section is right back in this one. Lions have cut a 40-28 TA lead earlier this quarter to 44-42 behind five 3-pointers. Still 4:13 left in the third.
8:47 p.m., Reigning 3s: Section staying close from long range. Lions have four 3s this quarter. TA leads 44-37.
8:40 p.m., Team stats: TA hit 14-of-33 shots from the field, 4-of-13 from 3 and 3-of-5 from the foul line. Section was 10-of-30 from the field, 2-of-12 from 3 and also 3-of-5 from the foul line. There were six lead changes and three ties in the first half.

8:11 p.m, Good one brewing: Looks like we are in for a good one in the finale on Day 1. After 1 quarter, TA and Section are tied 14-14.
8:06 p.m., Timeout on the floor: Section leads 12-8 with 1:45 left in the first quarter. Each team with a pair of 3s so far.
8:03 p.m., Setting the pace: Section up 7-5 with 3:35 left in the first quarter.

Three players (Page, Jordan Davis, Karter Jeffries) combined to score all the Eagles’ points. Providence was 8-of-23 from the field, 1-of-8 from 3 and 4-of-6 from the foul line. 4:52 p.m., That will do it: Decatur Heritage moves onto the the title game. Leslie Hames finished with 19 points. Genie McGhee had 13 points, 13 rebounds and 7 steals. Gabrielle Brown led Abbeville with 13 points and 7 rebounds.
