NEWSWORTHY
Red Devils on deck: Class 7A No. 1 Central-Phenix City will have to wait another day to play. Patrick Nix’s Red Devils play Percy Julian (formerly Robert E. Lee) in Montgomery on Saturday.
Grand opening: Greenville High is set to open its new stadium tonight for the Tigers’ homecoming game against Rehobeth. The stadium seats close to 4,500 and advertises the largest high school digital scoreboard in the state.
“This is a big deal,” Michael Nimmer, president of the Butler County Board of Education, told the Greenville Advocate this week. “There’s only two high schools in the state that have facilities sitting on the interstate, which is Saraland and now us. We wanted this so our kids, our students and their families have someplace they can be proud of. We really needed it.”
The Tigers are just 1-5 this season under first-year coach Garrick Pimienta. Rehobeth is 3-3.
Midseason coaching change: Robertsdale made a coaching change this week, relieving coach Kyle Stanford of his head coaching duties. He will remain on staff as athletic director. The assistant coaches will split duties tonight against St. Paul’s and for the rest of the season.
