Reward increased in Montgomery barberâs unsolved homicide from 2014
Authorities on Thursday announced they have increased the reward for information leading to an arrest in the cold case homicide of a Montgomery barber from 10 years ago.
Montgomery County District Attorney Daryl Bailey, Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, the Montgomery County Cold Case Unit and the family of Charlie “Jay” McCord said a $15,000 reward is now being offered in the case.
McCord, 36, was fatally shot around noon on Oct. 14, 2014 inside his barbershop, Mr. Barber Man, at 1551 Mt. Meigs Rd. in Montgomery.
The reward had previously been $11,000, with $1,000 from Central Alabama Crimestoppers. That amount has now been upped to $15,000, with Crimestoppers’ portion of the reward upped to $5,000.
McCord’s sister, Minister Furlesia Bell, said her brother’s family, especially his children, “need to know what happened and his murderer must be held accountable.”
Antony Shannon, investigator with the DA’s office and the Cold Case Unit, said the unit has received new leads, including video of a possible suspect and a photo of a car he was believed to be driving or riding in.
Investigators say the driver of this vehicle made contact with Charlie “Jay” McCord in McCord’s Montgomery barbershop shortly before McCord was fatally shot there in 2014.
Anyone with information on the owner of the vehicle, the identity of the suspect or his whereabouts was asked to call CrimeStoppers’ 24-hour tip line at 334-215-STOP (7867) or 1-833-AL1-STOP.
