Retired Gulf Shores police chief tapped to lead Pelham force

A former Gulf Shores chief has been tapped to lead the Pelham’s police force.

Pelham Mayor Gary Waters has appointed Edward Delmore as the city’s new chief following the City’s Police Chief. Chief Delmore replaces Chief Brent Sugg, who stepped down earlier this year.

Delmore will be sworn in Monday at the city council meeting.

He served as the chief in Gulf Shores for 15 years until he retired from that position earlier this year.

“Earlier this year, two significant events aligned,” Delmore said in a Friday news release. “I accomplished all of my professional goals in Gulf Shores, and I learned of Chief Sugg’s decision to return to Oklahoma to support his wife’s career.”

“The timing was serendipitous,” Delmore said. “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the Pelham Police Department.”

Delmore brings more than 40 years of law enforcement experience to Pelham, including 20 years at the Gulf Shores Police Department.

Pelham city officials said Delmore’s leadership there “earned widespread recognition, and his department achieved numerous milestones in policing excellence.”

Delmore has instructed law enforcement officers nationwide and has given lectures at the FBI National Academy in Quantico.

He has a master’s degree from Webster University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

He says is his leadership philosophy is centered on integrity, community engagement, and continuous improvement.

Delmore and his wife, Ann, who is a retired police officer, have three grown children and four grandchildren.
