Retail chain will no longer accept gift cards as it prepares to close all locations

If you planned to use a Joann gift card to spend during the craft retailer’s going out of business sales, you’re out of luck. The retail giant is no longer accepting use of its gift cards, reports Pennlive.com.

The chain is undergoing a liquidation process after filing for bankruptcy in January. In February, Joann announced it would close all 800 stores. The retailer’s going out of business sales began on Feb. 15 and customers have been able to shop Joann’s products in-store, online, or through the Joann mobile app, reports USA TODAY.

The policy to no longer accept the gift cards went into effect on Feb. 28, according to Pennlive.com. Some frustrated customers aired their grievances about that decision on social media.

“I just want you to know how incredibly upsetting it is that you cut off our ability to use gift cards,” read one comment made on the Joann Instagram page. “Regardless of the fact that you are closing, your business took money and now refuses to give the product in exchange for it. Wrong.”

Dates for the store closures have not been announced but the company said in a FAQ it expects “it will take a number of weeks” to complete final sales.
