Restaurant is discontinuing breakfast due to the price of eggs
In the midst of soaring egg prices, a Kentucky-based restaurant has decided to stop serving breakfast.
Louisville’s The Cottage Inn, recently announced plans to discontinue its breakfast service, “due to the high prices of eggs and other essential ingredients,” reports The Courier Journal.
“Like many small businesses, we have felt the effects of the rising costs of food and other expenses,” the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post. “The current economic challenges have made it increasingly difficult to stay afloat, and we’ve had to make tough decisions to keep our restaurant thriving.”
The Cottage Inn’s decision comes amid egg prices that have more than doubled as farmers have been forced to slaughter millions of chickens amid the deadly avian flu. Atlanta-based restaurant chain Waffle House has added a surcharge of 50 cents per egg to offset the hike. Retailers, including Walmart, have started limiting the number of eggs patrons can purchase.
