Reports: Washington set to hire Arizona coach Jedd Fisch
Arizona’s Jedd Fisch is the choice to replace Kalen DeBoer as Washington’s head football coach, according to multiple reports.
The 47-year-old Fisch is 16-22 in three seasons at Arizona, but broke through with a 10-3 record and an Alamo Bowl victory in 2023. His hiring comes two days after DeBoer left to replace Nick Saban at Alabama.
It was reported that Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb might replace DeBoer as head coach, but Grubb announced Sunday morning he was leaving the Huskies. Grubb is now expected to join DeBoer on the Alabama staff.
Fisch was quarterbacks coach of the New England Patriots when he was hired at Arizona in 2021, and went 1-11 in his first season. His Wildcats improved to 5-7 in 2022 before recording their first double-digit win record in nine years this past season.
DeBoer went 25-3 in two seasons at Washington, including a 14-1 record, Pac-12 championship and Sugar Bowl victory in 2023. The Huskies lost 34-13 to Michigan in the College Football Playoff national championship game last Monday.
Fisch — who was also interim coach at UCLA for the final two games of the 2017 season — takes over a Washington program that is poised to join the Big Ten after the Pac-12 dissolved. Arizona is joining the Big 12.
