Reports: Texas A&M set to hire Nebraska’s Alberts as AD
Texas A&M is set to hire Nebraska’s Trev Alberts as its new athletics director, according to multiple reports.
The move is a bit of a stunner, as Alberts is a Nebraska graduate and former Corhuskers football star who recently agreed to a contract extension. According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, the Aggies would owe a $4 million buyout to hire Alberts away from his alma mater.
Alberts would replace Ross Bjork, who was hired by Ohio State in January. Bjork will officially take over for the retiring Gene Smith in July.
Alabama’s Greg Byrne was rumored to be a candidate at Texas A&M, but said last week he was not interested in leaving Tuscaloosa for another AD job.
