Reports: Ole Miss hires ex-Miss. State coach Zach Arnett
Ole Miss has hired former Mississippi State head football coach Zach Arnett as an analyst, according to multiple reports.
Arnett, 37, was fired in November by the Bulldogs despite not having completed his first full season. Mississippi State, 4-6 at the time, replaced him with former Oklahoma and Ole Miss offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby.
Arnett was Mississippi State’s defensive coordinator from 2020-22, taking over as head coach after the sudden death of Mike Leach in December 2022. Prior to his time in Starkville, he was defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at San Diego State.
Arnett was by far the quickest in-season firing in modern SEC football history, topped only by Alabama dismissing Mike Price for off-field behavior in 2003 before he ever coached a game. Every other SEC football coach since World War II was given at least one full season before being let go.
