Reports: Football signing day moving up to early December
National signing day for football is moving again, to the same week as the conference championship games from its current mid/late December location, according to multiple reports.
The three-day early signing period will now begin on the Wednesday of conference championship game week as opposed to the third Wednesday in December, after a vote by the Conference Commissioners Association. The move is designed so that signing day will take place prior to the 30-day transfer portal window that opens in mid-December.
The late signing period will remain in place, beginning with the first Wednesday in February. Discussion of adding a third signing day in the summer has been tabled until this summer, ESPN and The Athletic are reporting.
The 2024 conference championships are set for the weekend of Dec. 6-7, meaning the three-day signing period would begin on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
