Reports: Charlotte fires football coach Will Healy
Charlotte has fired football coach Will Healy, according to multiple reports.
The move comes a day after the 49ers lost 34-15 at home to lowly Florida International, falling to 1-7 this season. Healy went 15-24 in four seasons at Charlotte, including 10-14 in Conference USA.
The 37-year-old Healy became a sensation in the coaching world when he went 8-4 on the FCS level in 2017 at Austin Peay, which had gone 0-11 the previous year. He took over at Charlotte in 2019 and went 7-6 with a berth in the Bahamas Bowl in his debut season, but had gone just 8-18 since.
Charlotte is one of seven FBS schools with head-coaching openings, along with UAB, Nebraska, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, Colorado and Wisconsin. All but UAB — where Bill Clark resigned in June for medical reasons — have fired their coaches since the beginning of the 2022 season.
Offensive line coach Pete Rossomando has been installed as interim coach. The 49ers play at Rice next Saturday.
