Reports: Alabama’s Rylan Griffen will enter transfer portal
Alabama basketball is going to be without one of the major contributors to its Final Four run next season. According to multiple reports, first from 24/7 High School Hoops, UA wing Rylan Griffen plans to enter the transfer portal.
A four-star recruit out of high school, Griffen spent the past two seasons with the Crimson Tide.
Griffen averaged 11.2 points while bouncing in and out of the starting lineup for Alabama this season, as the school made its first-ever trip to the Final Four.
During the tournament run, Griffen made headlines for his love of professional wrestling. Before the Crimson Tide lost to UConn, he said a win over the Huskies would compare to The Ultimate Warrior’s victory over Hulk Hogan.
Griffen was able to spark the team from three-point range at times this past season, hitting 39.2% of his shots from beyond the Arc. The 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard also chipped in with 3.4 rebounds per game.
Griffen was listed as the No. 3 shooting guard in the nation coming out of high school by 247Sports. He chose UA over Georgia, Kansas, Kansas State and Oklahoma State, among others.
He’ll become the third Alabama player to exit following the season’s end. Griffen is set to join Kris Parker, who redshirted the 2023-24 campaign, and Max Scharnowski, a walk-on.
The transfer portal is open for undergraduate entry through May 1.
