Report: Dates for 12 marquee 2024 SEC football games set

ESPN’s Chris Low reported the dates for 12 marquee SEC games on the 2024 schedule on Monday.

The SEC becomes a 16-team conference next season when Texas and Oklahoma come aboard. It’s also the first year of ESPN’s multi-billion broadcast deal with the league, and the first year of a 12-team College Football Playoff.

The full schedule will be announced at later date, but Low gave us all a taste on Monday. Among the highlights:

• Alabama will face Georgia on Sept. 28 and Oklahoma on Nov. 23, the week before the Iron Bowl. The Alabama-Tennessee game will be played on its tradition “Third Saturday in October” date (Oct. 19 in next year’s case), while Alabama-LSU remains in early November (Nov. 9 in 2024).

• Texas and Texas A&M will end the season against each other on Nov. 30. The two in-state rivals have not played since 2011, the year before the Aggies left the Big 12 for the SEC.

• Florida hosts Miami and Texas A&M hosts Notre Dame in non-conference action Aug. 31, the first Saturday of the season.

• Georgia travels to Texas on Oct. 19, while Oklahoma hosts Tennessee on Sept. 21. The latter is the Sooners’ SEC debut.

• LSU’s game with Texas A&M moves from late November to Oct. 26. The Aggies play at Florida on Sept. 14.

• Texas and Arkansas, a traditional marquee game in the old Southwest Conference, takes place Nov. 16.

• Ole Miss and Mississippi State will once again play on Thanksgiving weekend, though the date has not been set. The Egg Bowl has been played on Thanksgiving night the last several years.

Aside from the Iron Bowl, no game dates for Auburn were announced. It was previously reported that the Tigers will play Texas in 2024, however.
