Rep. Mike Rogers on why he wants to represent Alabama for 11th term in Congress

Alabama Third District Congressman Mike Rogers is running for re-election on Nov. 8, seeking an 11th term in the U.S. House of Representatives.

In a series of written questions, The Anniston Star asked the Republican leader from Saks why he decided to seek another two-year term and what he thinks have been his biggest accomplishments.

In addition, The Star asked if he agreed with the notion that former President Donald Trump won the 2020 election for president, not President Joe Biden. (The idea was demonstrated to be false through a series of legal actions and court cases.)

Rogers, who likely will be chairman of the House Armed Services Committee if reelected, responded in writing to all the questions.

Question:What are you really passionate about as you’re running for re-election? How important is it for Republicans to take back control of the House?

Answer: Representing the hard-working folks of East Alabama in Congress is my greatest honor. They deserve the best opportunities to live, work and raise children in this beautiful part of our state. Unfortunately, the disastrous Socialist agenda of Joe Biden is destroying those opportunities and our nation. Joe Biden and Democrats in Congress put America last. Their massive spending sprees create record high inflation that is crushing hard working families. Their Open Border policies are creating an invasion of illegal immigration and deadly drugs. Their anti-Police actions are destroying American cities with violent crime. And they are trying to rewrite our Constitution with their woke ideology. This is why voters will elect Republicans in November and once again put America First.

Q:You’ve been the U.S. representative for Alabama’s 3rd congressional district for nearly 20 years now. What has been the focus of your service, your biggest passion?

A: Creating more and better opportunities in East Alabama to live, work and raise a family and taking care of the needs of our constituents.

Q: As a member of the House Armed Services Committee, what upcoming changes can we expect from your office for our military if re-elected?

A: As the current top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, I am in line to become Chairman should the Republicans win the House. If so, I will be the first Member from Alabama to serve as Chairman in our nation’s history. This will be an exciting and incredible opportunity for our district and state.

Q: Former President Trump says the 2020 election was stolen from him. It has been a point of contention in other highly contested campaigns. What is your position today about the 2020 election?

A: The American people should have complete confidence and trust in our elections. After the 2020 elections, many Americans did not have that confidence and trust. Unfortunately, we are reminded every time we buy gas, groceries, or any other necessity, that Joe Biden is president.

The families of our beloved military heroes who died in the failed Afghanistan debacle, painfully and tragically know that Joe Biden is president. The families who have lost loved ones to fentanyl drug overdoses because of Joe Biden’s Open Border policies know firsthand that he is president. Joe Biden is a complete and utter disaster. That is why voters will turn out in record numbers this year so we can start to put America First again and send Joe Biden and Nancy Pelosi a message.

Q:Would you consider supporting the improvement of the Anniston Army Depot, as it’s a job-rich resource for our area?

A: I will always be the strongest advocate for the Depot. I know firsthand how important the Depot is to our community because my Dad worked there to provide for our family. Improving the infrastructure, growing the workload, and bringing in new lines of production will set the Depot up for decades to come. As the top Republican on the House Armed Services Committee, I am in prime position to make sure the Depot prospers and continues to be the premier worksite in the DOD.
