Redstone Arsenal’s annual street party for Army’s birthday is Friday

What’s becoming one of Huntsville’s favorite annual street parties is back for year three Friday night as the U.S. Army and the Redstone Gateway office park celebrate the Army’s birthday outside the main gates of Redstone Arsenal.

“We are excited to raise awareness on the Army birthday, Army Heritage Month celebration,” Redstone Garrison Commander Col. Brian Cozine said announcing the event. “This celebration has something for everyone. It is our hope that the local community will celebrate this birthday with us and enjoy all that we have to offer.”

This year will be the 248th anniversary of the Army’s founding on June 14, 1775. That was “more than a year before the Declaration of Independence,” the Army notes on its celebration web page.

Last year’s event drew more about 5,000 people, the garrison said. This year’s free celebration starts outside Gate 9 at 5 p.m. with a birthday cake cutting ceremony. That will be followed by the “Cruise-In Car Show,” craft and food vendors, music by DJ Slim and local band Buck’d Up and a kids fun zone.

The party is throughout the Redstone Gateway office park just north of the main gate. It ends at 8:30 p.m. with a fireworks display.
