Recruiting update: Hewitt-Trussville standout picks Virginia, more news

One of the top targets in Class 7A will head to the ACC.

Hewitt-Trussville wide receiver Dylan Cope has committed to Virginia, he announced on Wednesday afternoon.

A three-star prospect by 247Sports, the 6-foot-3 playmaker picked the Cavaliers over offers that include Georgia, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, UAB, Troy, Jacksonville State, South Alabama and Memphis.

Last season saw Cope haul in 40 catches for 504 yards and five touchdowns for the Huskies, averaging 12.6 yards per catch.

According to 247Sports, Cope is ranked as the No. 17 overall prospect in the state of Alabama for 2026 and is the No. 75 wide receiver prospect in the nation.

He will join former Hewitt-Trussville defensive lineman Hunter Osborne at Virginia.

Parker High School offensive lineman Kendarius Blair committed to Jacksonville State on Tuesday. The 6-foot-4, 310-pound offensive lineman helped lead Parker to a Class 6A state championship.

He picked the in-state Gamecocks over offers that include South Alabama, Georgia State, Memphis, Arkansas State, FIU, Alabama State and North Alabama.

Mars Hill Bible athlete Jaxon Penn has committed to play at Troy. The Panthers won a Class 3A state championship last season.

Penn also held offers from UAB, Army, Air Force, Navy, Samford, North Alabama, West Georgia and UT-Martin.

Offers

Jackson wide receiver Keeyun Chapman earned an offer from Colorado. The Class 4A state champion and four-star prospect also holds offers from Arkansas, South Carolina, TCU, Miami, Southern California, UNC, Georgia Tech, Troy and Jacksonville State.

Guntersville wide receiver Dadrien Waller, a Cincinnati commit, picked up an offer from Kennesaw State. He also holds offers that include South Alabama, Troy, Jacksonville State, UAB, Tulane and Samford.

Multiple in-state athletes picked up offers from North Alabama after a 7-on-7 event in Mobile hosted by the program, including:

In basketball news, Hoover star Kristen Winston earned an offer from Georgia Tech after a visit. The 2029 prospect has earned offers from Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Michigan State, Texas Tech and more this summer.

Oxford’s Jaylen Alexander added an offer from Belmont. He also recently picked up an offer from Louisiana to add to a list that includes Auburn, New Mexico State, Samford, UAB, Kennesaw State and Jacksonville State.
