Recruiting RDP: 5 Alabama sophomores among top 100 recruits

Five Alabama sophomores are among the top 100 players in the Rivals 250 national prospect rankings for the Class of 2026.

The list, released Thursday, includes St. Paul’s linebacker Anthony “Tank” Jones at No. 12, Mae Jemison defensive end Hezekiah Harris at No. 19, Oxford defensive end Keenan Britt at No. 38, Jackson quarterback Landon Duckworth at No. 63 and Hoover athlete Jonah Winston at No. 81.

Of those five players, only Duckworth is committed. The 6-foot-3, 189-pound dual-threat quarterback committed to South Carolina earlier this fall.

The No. 1 player on the list is Carrolton, Ga., QB Julian Lewis, who is committed to USC. Other committed players in the top 100 include Cincinnati wide receiver Chris Henry Jr. (Ohio State), Camp Hill, Pa., running back Messiah Mickens (Penn State) and Plantation, Fla., athlete Malachi Toney (Miami).

Seniors still trying to decide

Of the top 20 Alabama seniors in the 247 composite rankings, only two have yet to commit.

They are Hoover LB Bradley Shaw (No. 9) and Clay-Chalkville WR Mario Craver (No. 17).

Eight of the top 20 senior prospects are committed to Hugh Freeze and Auburn. They are Chilton County LB Demarcus Riddick (3), Foley WR Perry Thompson (4), B.T. Washington LB Joseph Phillips (8), Andalusia RB J’marion Burnette (14), Moody DB A’mon Lane (15), Baker WR Bryce Cain (16), Anniston DB Jayden Lewis (18) and Benjamin Russell ATH Malcom Simmons (19).

Three are committed to Alabama – Clay-Chalkville DB Jaylen Mbakwe (2), Parker DE Jeremiah Beaman (6) and Spanish Fort LB Sterling Dixon (9).

The top-rated player in the class, according to the 247 composite rankings, is Central-Phenix City WR Cam Coleman, who is committed to Texas A&M.

Baker pitcher commits to Auburn

Baker star pitcher Conner Gatwood announced his commitment to Auburn on Wednesday night.

Gatwood went 6-2 with a 2.75 ERA for the Hornets in 2023. He struck out 73 batters in 48.1 innings.

At the plate, he hit .447 with 15 doubles, 39 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He was an ASWA Class 7A second-team All-State selection.

Saraland softball star commits to USA

Saraland junior Gracie Dees has committed to South Alabama.

Dees, who has played third base and centerfield for the Spartans as well as pitched, hit .446 in 2023 with 48 runs scored, 62 hits, 69 RBIs, 15 doubles and 23 home runs.

The Class 6A first-team All-State selection had a .527 on-base percentage and a 1.592 OPS.
