Record warmth in parts of Alabama on Saturday
Two Alabama cities added to the weather record books on Saturday.
Both Mobile and Tuscaloosa had record high temperatures, according to the National Weather Service.
Those record highs came as strong storms were approaching the state. Severe weather will be possible statewide through Sunday morning as a cold front moves through, according to forecasters.
The temperature in Tuscaloosa soared to 78 degrees on Saturday, breaking the record of 76 set 51 years ago in 1972, according to the weather service in Birmingham.
It was even warmer in Mobile. The city’s official high temperature on Saturday was 80 degrees, which tied the record last reached in 1986.
Some other highs from around Alabama on Saturday:
* Anniston: 71 degrees
* Birmingham: 70 degrees
* Dothan: 79 degrees
* Huntsville: 71 degrees
* Montgomery: 76 degrees
* Muscle Shoals: 72 degrees
* Troy: 80 degrees
All that warm air is going to be swept away by a cold front, and expect temperatures to plummet on Sunday.
Highs on Sunday behind the front will only reach the 40s in north Alabama. South Alabama will enjoy some lingering warmth with highs expected to reach the 60s.
