Record highs in several Alabama cities on Friday

Some Alabama cities had storms — and some had record highs on Friday.

Montgomery broke a record that had been standing since 1899 when it reached 85 degrees on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Anniston also had a record high on Friday, hitting 81 degrees and tying the record last reached in 1951.

Mobile continued its streak of warm weather on Friday with a high of 84 degrees. That broke the record of 81 degrees that has stood since 1910.

Mobile also had record highs on March 1 and Feb. 28, when it also reached the highest temperature on record in the month of February. The city had yet another record high on Feb. 27.

The record temperatures came as other parts of the state dealt with severe storms and strong winds as a squall line moved through. Three deaths have been blamed on falling trees.

The cold front that brought the storms will also bring some cooler weather to Alabama starting on Saturday. Highs are expected to be in the 60s and 70s instead of the 80s many cities had experienced this week.

Temperatures are expected to reach the 60s and 70s on Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to warm up again next week.
