Reckon and Texas Tribune present: ‘Spring Awakening,’ a virtual panel on climate, utilities and you

Reckon is excited to partner with nonprofit politics and public policy newsroom, Texas Tribune, for an upcoming panel discussion on the intersection of extreme weather, utility rate hikes and quality of life in the U.S.

“Spring Awakening: A look at how climate catastrophe impacts the cost of living,” a virtual panel co-hosted by Reckon and the Texas Tribune, will include viewpoints from climate reporters from each newsroom as well as Capital B, a Black-led national news organization. We’ll specifically look at the Texas freeze of 2021 and how it reflects the ongoing inequalities that are a direct reflection of climate disaster and its unrelenting impacts on residents.

Join Reckon’s climate reporter, Christopher Harress, along with Texas Tribune energy reporter Emily Foxhall, and Capital B’s climate and environment reporter Adam Mahoney in an important discussion moderated by Texas Tribune editor Dave Harmon as they discuss their work and what the possibilities for change can look like for those directly impacted by the earth’s warming.

“People think of climate coverage primarily as what’s going on in the atmosphere. As climate journalists, we understand that our beat touches on every other beat in the newsroom. Climate stories are also about business, politics, health, family, equity and justice,” said Reckon’s editor-in-chief, Ryan L. Nave.

“I hope this conversation will highlight how people are adapting to a world that’s getting hotter every day and the urgency with which we need to respond to climate crises.”
