Reality TV star dead at 40 after ‘most challenging time of my life’
Latonya Pottain, known for season 11 of “My 600-Lb. Life,” died Saturday at the age of 40.
TMZ reports died May 17 after being hospitalized in Shreveport, La., for difficulty breathing. She later suffered cardiac arrest, her brother told the outlet.
A preliminary autopsy, per the Natchitoches Parish Coroner’s Office, revealed she died from congestive heart failure. TMZ reports a final autopsy is pending.
Thew death comes three months after Pottain created a GoFundMe after revealing she has gone through “the most challenging time of my life.”
“I currently weigh about 705 pounds and have been bedridden since June 2024 due to severe health issues,” she wrote in February. “In 2022, I was featured on ‘My 600-lb Life,’ where I started at 531 pounds and worked hard to get down to 505 pounds. However, after the show aired, I experienced overwhelming backlash, which sent me into a deep depression. My mental health suffered, and I became fearful of undergoing weight loss surgery.”
Pottain explained she experienced severe sciatica and was “completely bedridden.” Going to the hospital, she said, wasn’t an option because EMTs said transporting her would be a fire hazard due to my weight.
“This has been an incredibly difficult journey, and I truly want to fight for my health and my life,” she had posted.
