Readers of AL.com have made their decision on who should be the Alabama High School Boys Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 academic year, but it was close.

Back-to-back Mr. Football Ryan Williams of Saraland, now a freshman wide receiver at the University of Alabama, was the readers’ choice over Auburn signee and former Benjamin Russell standout Malcolm Simmons – also a wide receiver.
