Ravens rule out former Alabama All-American

Ravens rule out former Alabama All-American

The Baltimore Ravens will enter the AFC playoffs without three-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey, the NFL team announced on Thursday.

With a 13-4 regular-season record, the Ravens received a first-round bye as the No. 1 seed in the AFC postseason field. They’ll start the playoffs against the Houston Texans at 3:30 p.m. CST Saturday at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore. ABC and ESPN will televise the game.

Humphrey sustained a calf injury in the Ravens’ 56-19 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Dec. 31. The former Alabama All-American hasn’t practiced since and has been ruled out for Saturday’s game.

Humphrey missed seven games during the regular season and played barely half of the defensive snaps that he had in 2022, when he started every game and earned Pro Bowl recognition.

Humphrey missed the first four games of the 2023 season after having foot surgery during training camp, two more November games because of a calf injury and the regular-season finale with another calf injury.

Nine-year veteran Ronald Darby is likely to fill Humphrey’s spot in the lineup. Darby made seven regular-season starts with Humphrey sidelined.

Humphrey is in his seventh NFL season since joining Baltimore as the 16th selection in the 2017 draft.

Humphrey was a three-time All-State football player at Hoover High School, and the Buccaneers captured the AHSAA Class 6A football titles in 2012 and 2013.

Humphrey also won six individual state track championships with the Buccaneers and set state records in 400-meter run, 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles on the same day at the 2013 AHSAA indoor championships.

Humphrey played on Alabama’s CFP national championship team for the 2015 season and was a first-team All-American selection by the Football Writers Association of America for the 2016 season.

In addition to 2022, Humphrey received Pro Bowl recognition in 2019 and 2020, and he was an All-Pro first-team selection in 2019.
