Rashaan Evans has short stay with Philadelphia Eagles

After almost six months as a free agent, linebacker Rashaan Evans finally returned to an NFL roster on Tuesday, when the Philadelphia Eagles announced they had signed the former Alabama All-American for their practice squad.

But on Friday, the Eagles had another announcement about Evans. The team had released him, and Evans became a free agent again.

ESPN reported Philadelphia had terminated Evans’ contract at his request as he considers his options with other NFL teams, although a practice-squad player can be signed to the active roster of any other team at any time.

For the Atlanta Falcons last season, Evans recorded 159 tackles, tied for the seventh-most in the NFL. He became a free agent when the new league fiscal year started on March 15, but the 2023 season started last week with Evans still unsigned.

The Eagles brought aboard Evans on the same day that they put linebacker Nakobe Dean on injured reserve and moved Huntsville High School alumnus Nicholas Morrow to the active roster. Morrow started for the Philadelphia defense in Thursday night’s 34-28 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

A 2018 first-round draft pick off Alabama’s 2017 CFP national-championship team, Evans played four seasons with the Tennessee Titans before signing with the Falcons last year.

Evans was the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Class 6A Lineman of the Year at Auburn High School in 2013 and a first-team All-American selection by the American Football Coaches Association in 2017.
