Rapper Mac Jones talks with rapper Mike Jones
What started as a fun photo at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ media day ballooned into quarterback Mac Jones eating wings while talking on the phone with rapper Mike Jones.
One of the props for the player photos was a white Porsche with teal interior, matching the colors of the NFL team. A set of photographs of Jones show the former Alabama All-American posing with the car while holding a football and wearing sunglasses.
Jones then posted some of the photos on his social-media accounts with the message “281-330-8004.” If that didn’t ring a bell, Jones included “#BackThen” on his Instagram post of the photos.
The phone number belonged to rapper Mike Jones when he made his hit album “Who Is Mike Jones?” and appears in the lyrics for Jones’ top single “Back Then.”
When Mac Jones joined the Jaguars in a trade with the New England Patriots in March, he revealed that he was more than a rap fan, but a rapper in an introductory video made by the team.
“I don’t really have too many (hobbies),” Jones said, “but, I mean, I golf a little bit. I like to go fishing, like to be on the beach. I like to do a little bit of rapping. I do, though. I do. I’ve got a couple of songs. Nobody knows about it, so I’m letting the world know now I’m not in New England.”
After he posted his photos, Mac Jones followed with a post that showed him taking a delivery from Buffalo Wild Wings and getting a phone call. The number on his phone? 281-330-8004.
In a video shared by the Jaguars, Mac Jones thanked Mike Jones for the food.
“Now that we’re locked in like this here,” Mike Jones told Mac Jones while crossing his fingers, “I might have to come to Jacksonville. You know, I got love for Duval.”

The Jaguars will conclude their offseason program with a three-day mandatory minicamp on Monday through Wednesday. Unlike the rest of the offseason program, which is voluntary for players, the minicamp carries fines for players who miss the practices. But it’s not clear if Mac Jones will attend. That’s because on Friday, the team announced that most of its veterans wouldn’t be required to be there.
“Head coach Doug Pederson informed the team that select players, including a majority of veterans who participated in the offseason program to date, will be excused from mandatory minicamp in its entirety,” the release read. “Rookies, first-year players and select veterans will still be required to participate.”
Jones has been preparing for his fourth NFL season but his first as a backup. In his third season as New England’s quarterback, Jones was benched for the final six games of the 2023 season, then traded to Jacksonville this offseason.
The Jaguars have Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, entrenched as their starting quarterback.
