Randolph standout is Week 2 Huntsville area Football Player of the Week

The Huntsville area Football Player of the Week contributed on both sides of the ball as his team won for only the second time in 16 tries against a cross-town rival.

Noah Gaunt, a senior wide receiver/athlete for Randolph, had a big night as the Raiders beat Madison Academy 32-31 on the road last Friday. Madison Academy came into the game ranked No. 8 in Class 4A and left with an 0-2 record, 0-1 in Region 8 play.

Gaunt scored a pair of touchdowns and totaled 153 yards in receptions and recovered a fumble for another score. For his efforts, he got 7,219 of the 11,795 votes – 61 percent – registered in the Player of the Week poll.

Randolph, 1-1 and 1-0 in region play, will host Plainview in another region game on Friday.

New Hope senior receiver Dawson Cambron finished second in the balloting with 2,568 votes, 22 percent. He caught six passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns in a 69-0 rout of DAR. He also returned a punt 53 yards for another score.

Huntsville running back Jackson Spencer had the third-highest vote total for the week after scoring three touchdowns as the Panthers beat Mae Jemison 36-6. The junior also scored on a 2-point conversion. Spencer got 756 votes.
