Ramsay knocks off Hueytown despite game’s disruption
Ramsay quarterback Kameron Keenan threw three touchdown passes and ran for another, and Tremell Washington caught two TDs to lead the Rams to a 28-14 victory over Hueytown on Friday night.
“Kam played well,” Ramsay coach Ronnie Jackson said. “He missed a couple of shots, but he got the ball to a dynamite guy in Tremell. We have to get him the ball if we want to win this year.”
The game at Hueytown High was delayed with about four minutes to go in the third quarter when a disturbance in the stands sparked chaos. Both teams left the field, but returned to finish in the game in a nearly empty stadium. A teen suspect was tackled by Hueytown assistant coach Chandler Byrum, and authorities reported he had a gun.
Top play: On Washington’s 34-yard TD catch, he snatched the ball away from a Hueytown defender to stop what looked like an interception for the Golden Gophers. He caught it at the 20 and raced into the end zone.
Stat sheet: Ramsay – Keenan finished 13-of-29 passing for 190 yards and threw to interceptions. Kristian Stinson caught four passes 85 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown. Washington caught two passes for 66 yards, TDs covering 34 and 32 yars. QB Reese led the Ramsay defense with nine tackles and three sacks.
