Rams select Auburn running back Jarquez Hunter at No. 117 in fourth round of 2025 NFL Draft
The first Auburn football player is off the board in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Former Tigers running back Jarquez Hunter was selected by the Los Angeles with the 14th pick in the fourth round of the draft.
Hunter spent four seasons at Auburn, rushing for over 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns during his senior year in 2024. His best performance came against Kentucky, a game in which he rushed for a career-high 278 yards on 23 carries in a 24-10 win. Those 278 yards are the fourth-most all time by an Auburn player in a single game.
His rushing yards increased every season he was at Auburn, going from 593 to 668 to 909 before his 1,201-yard senior season. Hunter averaged 6.7 yards per rush his freshman year, which still stands as his career high.
He finished his college career with 3,371 rushing yards, ranking fourth in program history, trailing James Brooks, Carnell Williams and Bo Jackson. Hunter had fewer carries than each of the three players above him on the list, finishing his Auburn career averaging 6.3 yards per rush.
Hunter participated in both the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine in the leadup to the draft, running a 4.44 40-yard dash, putting him in the top among running backs at the combine.
“I feel like the 40-yard dash will speak for itself, but I really want to show off my catching ability,” Hunter said at the combine. “I feel like it’s really underrated because I did not catch it a lot at Auburn. I know for myself how dominant I can be in the passing game.”
With Hunter out of the picture, Damari Alston, Jeremiah Cobb and Durell Robinson seem to be the most likely candidates to absorb his carries. Robinson came to Auburn from UConn via the transfer portal, joining the room in 2025 along with true freshmen Alvin Henderson and Omar Mabson.
“I just try to show them, man, you work hard for what you want, you gonna get great things,” Hunter said at the Senior Bowl. “That’s what I did. I worked hard every day, and I got great outcomes.”
