Raiders GM declines to address Josh Jacobs-trade rumors
With Las Vegas 17 days away from its season-opening game, Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler had “nothing new” on when 2022 NFL rushing leader Josh Jacobs would join the team.
And he didn’t provide any insight on speculation that Las Vegas was trying to trade the running back either.

“Any trade speculation and all that stuff, organizationally that’s nothing that we would address on any player,” Ziegler said during a Thursday press conference. “There’s no advantage to doing that. We’re just going to keep pushing forward. We’re focused on our situation here, putting the roster together the best way we can to field a competitive team, and that’s where we’re at.”
The trade questions came with the Indianapolis Colts shopping running back Jonathan Taylor, the 2021 NFL rushing leader who was angered when the team didn’t sign him to a contract extension this offseason.
Taylor has a year remaining on his contract with the Colts.
Jacobs does not have a signed contract with the Raiders. But he does have a contract offer.
The impasse began when Las Vegas used its franchise tag to prevent Jacobs from becoming a free agent in March. The franchise tag guaranteed the former Alabama standout a $10.091 million payday for the 2023 season and gave the team and player until July 17 to work out a multi-year deal.
They failed to do so, and Jacobs has not signed the franchise-tag tender.
The Raiders can sign him to a more lucrative contract, but the rules prohibit the team from offering anything other than a one-year deal.
Jacobs could sign the franchise-tag offer and report for practice at any time. Las Vegas also could withdraw the offer, which would turn Jacobs into an unrestricted free agent.
Asked on Thursday for an update on Jacobs, Ziegler said: “Yeah, nothing new to add right now on that, so we’ll just keep pushing forward.”
The Raiders will conclude their preseason schedule against the Dallas Cowboys at 7 p.m. CDT Saturday at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Las Vegas will start the regular season against the Denver Broncos at 3:25 p.m. Sept. 10 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.
