Prichard domestic incident ends with man dead, nephew charged with murder

A 36-year-old man is in Mobile Metro Jail, charged with murdering his uncle during a domestic dispute which turned into a 4 1/2 hour standoff between the suspect and law enforcement.

According to Prichard police, officers and SWAT team personnel from the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a man barricaded inside his mother’s home, with others being held inside, about 5 p.m. Friday.

The suspect, Destin Levan Conner of Eight Mile, was ultimately taken into custody without further incident. When questioned by police, Conner reportedly told investigators he had stabbed and killed his uncle, 70-year-old Albert Conner.

The body was later recovered from inside the residence and transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy.

In addition to murder, Destin Conner is charged with kidnapping, menacing and domestic violence.

Destin Conner, who is listed in state court records as both Destin Levan Conner and Destin Levar Conner, is a convicted felon, having pleaded guilty in 2013 to 2nd-degree assault. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, but that sentence was suspended and he was placed on three years probation.

In 2016, that probation was revoked after he pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree assault, cocaine possession and obstruction of justice. He was sentenced to five years in prison and was paroled in 2018.
