Priceville stays unbeaten by beating Westminster
Westminster Christian couldn’t slow down the Priceville offense.
The Bulldogs scored 49 second-half points and set a new single-game scoring record and stayed undefeated in Friday’s 72-45 victory over Westminster Christian. The victory sets up a showdown next week with Randolph for the Class 4A, Region 8 championship.
The teams combined for more than 1,000 yards of total offense, as Westminster (5-3 overall, 4-2 in Class 4A, Region 8) gave up 70 points for the second time this season.
Westminster led 25-22 at halftime, thanks to three touchdown runs from Brandon Musch and a 36-yard field goal from Mark Royar. Priceville got two touchdowns from Jaylen Mosley and two from Mason Cartee, the last one with 19 seconds to go in the half.
Clemons gave Priceville a 29-25 lead on his 20-yard run, and Musch answered with a 67-yard run to give the Wildcats a 32-29 lead.
Jaylen Mosely countered for Priceville with a 65-yard run for a 37-32 lead, but Musch answered again for Westminster with 2- yard run that capped a 10-play, 72-yard drive for a 38-37 lead.
Priceville (9-0, 6-0) then outscored the Wildcats 35-7 the rest of the way. Cartee scored on a 55-yard run, Clemons scored on a 31-yard run, Mosley scored on a 9-yard run and Jackson Prickett threw a 30-yard TD pass to Xander Gaines.
Musch found Owen Lockette for a 14-yard TD with 7:17 to go , Mosley added a 43-yard run and Clemson ran in the 2-point conversion to cap the scoring.
Key stat: Three Priceville backs ran for more than 100 yards – Mosely with 174 and four TDs, Cartee with 139 yards and three TDs and Clemons with 134 yards and two TDs.
Play of the Game: Priceville trailed Westminster 38-37 with 5:47 to go in the third quarter when Cartee found a hole on the Wildcat defense and raced 55 yards for a touchdown to put the Bulldogs ahead for good.
Stat sheet: Priceville – 599 total yards, with 116 yards passing and 483 yards rushing. Westminster – 467 total yards. Musch was 19-29 for 200 passing and one touchdown while gaining 188 on the ground and five touchdowns. Henry Claunch gained 88 on 17 carries. Lockette caught eight for 88 yards and one touchdown, Amos Baldwin caught four for 62 yards and Royar caught three for 47 yards.
