President Biden is 81 today: Who was oldest president? Youngest?
President Joe Biden turns 81 today though the celebration will be something of a turkey.
The president is marking Thanksgiving with the annual turkey pardoning of this year’s birds, Liberty and Bell. There are no official birthday celebrations on the White House schedule, even as Biden continues his place in history as the oldest sitting president in U.S. history. If reelected in 2024, he would be 86 at the end of his second term.
The president was born on November 20, 1942, in Scranton, Penn. He was 78 years old, 61 days at the time of his inauguration, the oldest Commander in Chief to take the oath of office. Biden’s predecessor, President Donald Trump, previously held the record for oldest at inauguration at 70 years, 220 days. Ronald Reagan was 69 years, 348 days at the time of his first swearing-in; William Henry Harrison was 68 years, 23 days.
After President William McKinley died in 1901, Theodore Roosevelt became the youngest president at 42 years, 322 days. John F. Kennedy was the youngest elected president at 43 years and 236 days.
On average, presidents are sworn in at 55 years old
Is age a factor in presidential approval?
It appears age will play a large role in the 2024 presidential election, with the leading contenders – Biden and Trump – being the oldest two to ever hold the office.
An October poll by Monmouth University found 76% of voters believe Biden is too old to effectively serve a second term, compared to 78% who said the same about Trump.
