Predatory towing in Birmingham prompts outraged residents to unite on Facebook

As public complaints accusing local towing company Parking Enforcement Systems (PES) of predatory towing began popping up online earlier this year, Birmingham attorney Megan Richards took to Facebook to look for answers.

When she couldn’t find the help she was looking for, she took things into her own hands and created a Facebook group, Citizens Concerned about Birmingham Parking Enforcement Practices.

This group, Richards said, was inspired by another group, Citizens against Parking Enforcement Systems, Inc. Predatory Towing, that she discovered in her research. The page was created in 2013 for Birmingham drivers to share their stories about negative interactions they had had with the company.

But it was abandoned in 2017 with the admin’s final post reading as follows.

“Looking for someone willing to admin this page,” it says.
