Preakness Stakes live stream: Watch the race online

Not going to be able to watch Saturday’s Preakness Stakes on TV, but still want to see which of the seven thoroughbreds wins the iconic race? There are other options to access NBC Sports’ televised coverage of the event.

The race will be live streamed on fuboTV, which is offering a free trial. You also can live stream the 148th Preakness Stakes online through nbcsports.com or Peacock, or by using the NBC Sports Live Extra app.

The online coverage parallels NBC Sports’ televised coverage of the event, which starts at noon CDT Saturday on CNBC and switches to NBC at 3:30 p.m.

Post time for the Preakness Stakes is scheduled for 5:50 p.m. CDT Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.

Saturday’s Preakness Stakes marks the return of trainer Bob Baffert to the Triple Crown events. Baffert has trained 16 winners of Triple Crown races, including two colts that won all three — American Pharoah and Justify. But he hasn’t had a runner in one of the races since the 2021 Preakness.

Baffert has National Treasure running in Saturday’s race.

Baffert has not been allowed to enter horses in the events since Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit’s third-place finish in the 2021 Preakness Stakes.

After testing positive for betamethasone, an anti-inflammatory steroid that is legal to use in Kentucky – but not on race day — Medina Spirit eventually was stripped of the Kentucky Derby victory and Baffert was banned at Churchill Downs Inc. tracks for two years. He also got a one-year ban in Maryland and New York, which kept him away from the Preakness and Belmont last year.

Baffert has saddled seven winners of the Preakness, tied with Robert Wyndham Walden for the most in the race’s history.

Baffert won the Preakness in 1997 with Silver Charm, 1998 with Real Quiet, 2001 with Point Given, 2002 with War Emblem, 2010 with Lookin at Lucky, 2015 with American Pharoah and 2018 with Justify.

Walden won the Preakness in 1875 with Tom Ochiltree, 1878 with Duke of Magenta, 1879 with Harold, 1880 with Grenada, 1881 with Saunterer, 1882 with Vanguard and 1888 with Refund.
