Praise rolls in for new Miss Alabama, Emma Terry: ‘We are so proud of you’

Congratulations and well wishes are raining down from around the state for Emma Terry, the new Miss Alabama.

Terry received the crown Saturday night at Samford University’s Wright Center in Birmingham. She competed as Miss Hoover, besting 42 other contestants for the 2025 state title.

Naturally, some of the proudest cheers came from Hoover. Late Saturday, Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato sang Terry’s praises in a Facebook post.

“Congratulations to Miss Hoover Emma Terry who has just been crowned Miss Alabama 2025!”

Former Hoover police chief Nick Derzis, who is running for mayor, also congratulated Terry on his Facebook campaign page.

“We’re proud to see another young woman from Hoover shine on the statewide stage. With both a Miss Alabama and a Miss America coming from this community, Hoover continues to lead in more ways than one!”

Vecchia Pizzeria & Mercato, the pizza parlor and market helmed by Bernard and Brianna Tamburello, posted a congratulatory message after Terry and chef Bernard Tamburello appeared on the weekend edition of WBRC’s “Good Day Alabama.”

“What an incredible morning on WBRC 6 News Good Day Alabama with our very own Chef Benard Tamburello as we celebrated Emma’s well-deserved victory! A huge shout‑out to Emma, whose poise, talent, and passion (especially her “Stomping Out ALS” initiative) shined brightly at last night’s pageant,” the message reads. “Emma, you stole the stage at Samford University last night, and impressed everyone—from the judges to Chef Benard this morning—with your grace and authenticity. We’re so proud of you and can’t wait to see what’s next as you prepare for Miss America 2026!”

Terry, from Leeds, is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham with both a master’s and a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She was the runner-up for Miss Alabama in 2023 and 2024, and named Miss Alabama’s Teen 2021.

“I am on top of the world,” Terry told AL.com after her win. “I can’t believe it. I have had this dream since I was 14 years old, and it’s surreal. I’m so honored, so blessed. I just knew that it was going to be in the Lord’s hands, that this was up to God’s plan, and I put everything into this, everything I had.”
