When does school start this year?

I can’t say that I know for certain when the 2023 school will commence, but I do know that it must be soon. And by soon I think it will be any day now.

I know this because on a recent visit to my favorite big box store I was struck immediately upon entering the door by the unmistakable aroma of Crayons. The store was a crazy swirl of parents and kids wrestling over school supplies.

I was struck with a sense of dread, even though I’m way past the age of having to worry about such things.

Why dread, you ask? Because the lazy, hazy days of summer are coming to a close and soon (very soon) the regimented discipline of school will take over.

It’s a tough transition for kids, but it is also a challenge for home chefs who must provide sustenance for growing minds and bodies on a regular, predictable timetable.
