Possible human bone found in Walker County sparks searches, tests
Investigators with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office are combing through missing person reports after deputies recovered a possible human bone over the weekend, the agency said Wednesday.
The deputies received a call Sunday from a citizen in the Curry community, said Sheriff Nick Smith.
When they arrived on the scene, “they they met with residents who discovered what they believed to possibly be a human bone,” said Smith.
Investigators with the sheriff’s office were then dispatched to Curry to search the area.
Evidence, including the bone, was collected and sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for testing.
Meanwhile, investigators are also going through missing person reports for any possible matches in a national database of DNA profiles from crime scene evidence and convicted offenders, Smith said.
The process could take several months, the sheriff said.
