Popular TV brand is about to disappear from several major stores
A well-known television brand will soon exit several major retailers as it moves exclusively to Walmart.
Tech and retail tracking site TomsGuide.com said Vizio TVs will become a private-label brand available only through Walmart and Sam’s Club later this year. The news was first reported by Bloomberg, citing an internal memo. It’s unclear if Vizio will remain as a brand name or if Walmart will transition it to onn, its existing TV line.
The change means the low-cost but highly rated TVs will no longer be available at retailers like Target, Best Buy and Amazon. No timeline has been given for the move, other than an expected switch later this year.
Walmart purchased Vizio for $2.38 billion late in 2024, stressing the brand’s SmartCast Operating System and plans to use it to expands Walmart Connect, the company’s retail media business the U.S.
“VIZIO offers great products at great prices that customers love. They’ve always put customers at the center of their business – and that’s core to Walmart’s values and the omnichannel experiences we’re excited to roll out,” said Seth Dallaire, executive vice president and chief growth officer, Walmart U.S. “VIZIO has also expertly changed their business over time, like building and quickly scaling a profitable advertising business. Pairing it with Walmart Connect will be impactful and allow us to invest in our business even further on behalf of our customers.”
