Popular snack recalled due to ‘life-threatening’ allergen

A popular snack food has been recalled due to the presence of an undeclared allergen that could cause a life-threatening reaction to people with food sensitivities.

Hawaii-based Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company LLC is voluntarily recalling 0.6 ounce and 4 ounce bags of its Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamia nuts. According to an announcement from the FDA, the recall is due to the possible presence of undeclared almonds and cashews.

People with allergies or a severe sensitivity to almonds or cashews run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the products, reports the FDA.

The affected 0.6oz bag has the UPC 0 72992 05464 4, marked with lot numbers K5069C1 and K5069C2 and best by date of October 2026.
