Popular restaurant closes two Alabama locations
Owners of Five Bar — a popular restaurant serving brunch, lunch and dinner, confirmed that they have permanently closed their Birmingham and Mobile locations at the end of 2023.
According to Cris Eddings, a co-owner of Five, the leases of both locations expire at the end of January 2024. He said, via email, the closures were due to slow weekday business.
“The Birmingham Five was in business for 12 years and the Mobile store was open for 7 years,” Eddings said. “While weekend sales were good in both locations, weekday business was generally slow. The Five restaurants seem to be a better fit for college towns. The operations in Tuscaloosa and Athens, Ga continue to do well.”
The original Five Bar location opened in Tuscaloosa in 2011, and then opened a second location in Birmingham that same year. The restaurant was known for it’s simple, but delicious, five item menu of rotating entrees, wines, and cocktails.
“We enjoyed great relationships with our landlords, our customers, our staffs – and tried to be good partners in the Lakeview and Downtown Mobile communities,” Eddings said. “Our hope is that the new restaurants that take over these locations will do great and we’re sure they’ll add enjoyment to these wonderful neighborhoods. We offer a heartfelt thanks to everyone – guests and staff – that were a part of these two restaurants.”
